How to Reset LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra Factory Settings

This video walks you through how to restore your LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra tablet to its default factory settings. This removes all user accounts and personal information from the device so it's ready to sell to someone else, or hand down to another family member.

Hi. I'm Max Dalton, and in this video I'm going to talk through how to reset your LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra to its default factory settings.

Restoring the LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra kid's tablet to its default factory settings is important to do before you either donate your tablet to charity, give it to another friend or family member, or sell it to someone else. Resetting the tablet's factory settings removes all of your accounts, personal information and content from the device, so that whoever gets the device next won't be able to use the device with your account, or see any of your personal information and content. Additionally, resetting the factory settings is a great last resort if you're troubleshooting a problem that you're not able to solve through other methods. The process to reset a LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra tablet takes roughly an hour.

Step 1. Install the LeapFrog Connect software on your computer if you haven't done so already. If you haven't installed LeapFrog Connect on your computer, you can do so by navigating to leapfrog.com, clicking "Support" in the menu bar along the top of the screen, and then choosing "Download LeapFrog Connect." You'll be taken to a Download LeapFrog Connect screen. Click the "Download" link beneath LeapPad Ultra to download the LeapFrog Connect software to your computer. You'll be prompted to register your LeapPad Ultra and set up a LeapPad account during installation if you haven't already done so.

Step 2. Connect the LeapPad Ultra you want to reset to the default factory settings to your computer using the USB 2.0 cable that came with the device. Alternatively, if you don't have the cable that came with the device, any USB 2.0 cable you have for other devices should work.

Step 3. Launch the LeapFrog Connect software on your computer if it doesn't launch automatically. The application will load and you'll arrive at the Welcome to LeapFrog Connect home screen, where you'll see all of the devices you've registered within the application.

Step 4. Click to choose the LeapPad Ultra you want to restore to factory settings from the list of devices displayed, if you have multiple LeapFrog devices registered in LeapFrog Connect. A details screen for that specific device appears.

Step 5. Click "Settings" in the upper right corner of the screen. A Settings dialog box appears in the center of the screen.

Step 6. Select the LeapPad Ultra tab from the list of options along the top of the dialog box, and then click "Reset" in the list of options. Another dialog box appears, asking if you're sure you want to reset the LeapPad Ultra to its default factory settings.

Step 7. Tap "Reset" again. A dialog box appears on the screen featuring a progress bar along the bottom that shows you the progress of the factory reset, and an estimate of how much time is left. Do not disconnect the LeapPad Ultra from your computer while the factory reset is in progress.

Step 8. After the LeapPad Ultra factory reset is complete, the tablet will turn off. Additionally, you'll be returned to the LeapFrog Connect home screen where the device you reset will no longer be displayed. You'll see an error message on the screen telling you that a profile must be set up on the tablet before you can access it in LeapFrog Connect.
