Let's discuss the hardware differences first from a specifications point of view.

Living up to their name, the Mega 6.3 sports a 6.3 inch Super Clear LCD with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and the Mega 5.8 boasts of a 5.8 inch TFT screen with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. Undoubtedly, the resolutions on both screens are quite low and hence result in poor display quality. The rich details are quite absent as few pixels are spread across a large screen.

They are quite large devices and hence weigh proportionately. The Mega 5.8 weighs 183 gms whereas the Mega 6.3 weighs around 200 gms.

However, surprisingly both the devices are extremely sleek. Despite their large structure, the Mega 5.8 and Mega 6.3 clock at 9 mm and 8 mm thickness respectively.

The Mega 6.3 features a 1.7 GHz Dual Core processor whereas the Mega 5.8 is slightly lower clocked with a 1.4 GHz Dual Core processor. Both of them are supported using a 1.5 GB RAM.

Given the larger display of Mega 6.3, gaming and viewing experience is far better. Add to it a slightly higher resolution than the Mega 5.8 and a better display technology (super clear LCD) the color contrast, rendition and clarity is much better. Blacks are deeper in the Mega 6.3 inch display, but not as deep as what we are used to seeing the Super AMOLED displays.

Both the devices are actually quite close to being tablets. They are quite difficult to operate using one hand and definitely not pocket friendly. The Mega 5.8 might fit into your pocket, but you would surely feel uncomfortable and have difficulties moving around or bending.

The Mega 6.3 definitely seems to be a better buy if you have enough money. The look and feel seems to be more premium with the Mega 6.3 whereas the Mega 5.8 seems slightly inferior. It could be associated to the fact that Mega 5.8 comes in white whereas the Mega 6.3 comes in a more bold black mist color. The diamond pattern is much more prominent in the Mega 6.3 and gives it a more Galaxy S4 appearance.

Both the devices feature 8 MP primary camera and 1.9 MP secondary camera. The camera app interface has been inspired from the new design as we have seen in Galaxy Camera and the Galaxy S4 camera app. Both devices now feature Sound and Shot and continuous shot which can take 3 pictures per second.

Mega 6.3 distinguishes itself from the Mega 5.8 camera app with the fact that it comes with remote view finder capability. With that, you can make any other premium Galaxy smartphone with the latest Android 4.2.2 build to act like a remote control for taking pictures. The Mega 6.3 also features Air View which is absent in Mega 5.8.
