Don't throw away your old Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) phone yet when you replace with a new phone. This phone was given to me by my brother as he already upgraded to a new phone. Instead of laying around and collect dust, I upgrade the S to latest JW5 (Europe) Gingerbread firmware and MAY later update to ICS (4.0.4) or JellyBeans (4.1.1).
This is a lengthy video (about 15 mins) as there are lots of stuff to know if you are new to firmware upgrade (not using KIES update but KIES still needed). Latest ROM can be downloaded from a website that I have stated inside my video. This upgrade is stock ROM meaning stock from Samsung. There are many custom ROM but I stick to stock ROM at the moment.
Installation of Android SDK; please Google search. If you having BootLoop, pop me a comment. I will try to help as I can else please Google search.
