This is a decent computer for the price, The specs were all as described.

I'm just setting this up and when I tried to download Chrome I'm notified that I have to switch out of S mode. Nothing was said about this laptop being in S mode. I guess I can switch out but just be aware that's how it comes.
And also, even though it comes in Windows 10 S mode, its very easy to permanently (and free as of this review) to switch to full Windows 10 Home mode (and takes only about 30 seconds if you know where to find the setting).
I looked into desktops too, and this laptop is hardly more expensive than any desktops I could find with comparable specs.
The "Solid State Drive" makes it fast and I love the big 17 inch screen, since this will be my only PC at home. Its still portable in case I need to take it with me.
The black "maglia" pattern is nice too and helps to minimize scratches. My old Sony laptop would get scratched easily.
I did not like the Windows 10 in S mode thats on this HP PC, which does not allow installation of basic things like Chrome, unless you remove it. With S mode, you can only install things approved by Microsoft.
You do have the option to take it out of S mode, which Ive already done. I installed Blue Ray/DVD player software for only $9.99 from the Microsoft store because Windows Media Player will not play DVDs.
I really love this laptop and Im very happy with it.
Its much faster than what I had, thats for sure. Battery lasts easily 3 to 4 hours of web surfing and light video watching. Im not usually a fan of laptop keyboards in budget friendly machines, but this one is pretty nice with decent travel and satisfying feel.
I was think about taking one point off for using a solid bottom piece rather than the access doors and removable batteries of old, but meh, not that big of deal I guess.
Worth the money for me.
Great Laptop. I Purchased this for around 440.00 at amazon.com. The DVD writer is 9.0 mm and not 9.5 mm.
So I updated to Blu-ray burner, add 2 TB high performance SSD in it also 32 GB ram and man this laptop will be my last one for a while with all the updates this laptop smokes.
It was fast before but it rocks. I purchased all upgraded components on Amazon i love this laptop. I like the i5 processor at its base it ran great store bought.
The S mode is easy to fix takes about 5 minutes to do that and as far as the battery replacement it is not difficult to replace if needed. Overall I give this laptop 5 stars and with the ability to upgrade it.
I think its a cant miss.
I dont know why, but the "fan" sound is so loud. other than that, its ok. The screen is big, I think the next laptop I get with have smaller screen.
there is a number keypad on the right and the two bottoms (right and left) on center touch pad, which are two things I really wanted in a new laptop. I wanted to get an i7, but couldnt afford it, so this was a compromise with myself.
