Samsung made the successor to the Galaxy Fold official during its virtual Unpacked event on the 5 August, before fully revealing the new folding phone on 1 September at Unpacked Part 2.

Now that we have all the details, here's everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The company has yet to reveal pricing, although leaks suggested it would be £1799. A pre-registration page has been open on Samsung's website since it was first revealed and we're expecting this to change to a pre-ordering page on 1 September.

Thanks to a leak though the UK Samsung website, we're expecting it to cost £1799 with 256GB of storage. That leak also said that pre-orders would be despatched on 17 September with general availability from 18 September. This may differ internationally, but we'll be sure to update as soon as we have the full details.

Samsung has stuck to the book-style vertical fold like the original Galaxy Fold but there are plenty of changes with the new device. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 will come in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black, but Samsung has confirmed that it will be offering customisation options for the hinge of the phone. This will allow silver, red, blue or gold colours to be used on the spine of the phone instead. We don't know if this option will cost more.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a punch hole camera in the centre of the external display and another punch hole camera in the centre of the the right side of the internal display. Bezels have been significantly reduced, with Samsung saying that they are now 27 per cent smaller. It offers a much more refined design to the original, especially thanks to the removal of the corner notch.

The new hinge has a reinforced cam structure, less of a gap between the display and the hinge when folded and unfolded and the device can stay open at a number of different angles, like the Galaxy Z Flip. Thanks to "sweepers" in the hinge, the gaps are protected from dust and dirt.

There's a fingerprint scanner on the edge, along with stereo speakers.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 comes with a 7.6-inch display when unfolded, bigger than the original 7.2-inch. Samsung is using Ultra Thin Glass on this display, like the Galaxy Z Flip, though the company has made some further improvements to the display structure. It also supports adaptive refresh rates, from 11-120Hz to suit the content you're looking at.

The external display was one of the negative aspects of the original Fold. The new 6.2-inch display that fills the exterior of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be welcomed, adding to the usability of this phone when it's closed.

On the hardware front, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ is under the hood, coupled with 12GB of RAM.

The Z Fold 2 come with 256GB storage. The battery has a combined capacity of 4500mAh and it supports fast wired and wireless charging, with wireless reverse charging too.

There are load of cameras on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, but Samsung isn't pushing this phone as its camera champion, so it doesn't offer the same system as the S20 Ultra or Note 20 Ultra. Instead, there's the same main camera that we got on the Galaxy S20+, with a 12-megapixel sensor with big 1.8µm pixels and a wide f/1.8 aperture. That should make for a great camera in all conditions, including low light.

The telephoto looks like a standard lens rather than the periscope that we're seeing elsewhere, so likely only offers 3x telephoto. The ultra-wide doesn't appear to have a sensor as large as the S20+. We suspect it's going to all work well enough, but it's not pushing the same extremes as some of Samsung's other flagship devices. We'll have to test it to be able to assess it, but like the original Fold, it doesn't look like it's going to be the strongest Samsung has in the camera department.
