Review of the Galaxy Tab 4 8 inch variant
Specifications of the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 inch 16 GB variant
Below are the Galaxy Tab 4 specs:
OS: Android 4.4.2 KitKat
Processor: 1.2 GHz Quad Core
RAM: 1.5 GB
Screen size: 8 inch
Resolution: 800 x 1280 pixels, 189 ppi
Weight: 320 gms (two and a half Galaxy S4)
Thickness: 8 mm (the same as a Galaxy S5)
User Interface: latest TouchWiz
Camera: 3.15 MP primary camera, 1.3 MP secondary camera
No LED flash, no tap to focus
Multi-window: Yes
Smart Stay: Yes
The Galaxy Tab series has been always a mid range tablet smartphone spree from Samsung focusing on mediocre performance and low price. The Tab 4 inherits the same parameters but at a slightly higher price than the previous Tabs released by Samsung.
The Galaxy Tab 4 features the latest Android 4.4.2 kitkat right out of the box and comes loaded with the latest TouchWiz interface by Samsung. Features likes multi-window and smart stay come loaded in the tablet.
The 1.2 GHz quad core processor along with 1.5 GB of RAM puts the tablet under the same performance as the Galaxy Grand 2. So basically, the tablet has the same processor and RAM as the Grand 2 only on a bigger screen.
With an 8 inch HD screen, the device delivers a pleasant viewing experience. Of course its not as crisp as in the Note Pro 12.2 or Tab S series, but it's not that bad either. The display is not Super AMOLED, but it's LCD TFT which is sufficient.
The tablet does not weigh very heavy and is actually quite thin for an 8 inch tablet. It's 320 gms in weight (equivalent of holding two and a half Galaxy S4 devices) and 8 mm in thickness (as thick as the Galaxy S5).
The device is capable of playing full HD movies, HD games such as asphalt 8, modern combat 4 and FIFA 14. There were no hiccups during playing the game and no significant heating either.
The tablet is a great companion for watching movies, streaming videos, listening to music, doing your office work and reading books, articles, forums, blogs etc.
If you were thinking of an upgrade from the Tab 3, i'd not recommend it. But if you are looking for a new Android tablet, then the Tab 4 is definitely a great choice. Though I'd wait for a bit for the prices to come down. The tablet at 20,000 INR would be a better buy.
