Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop, 15.6 inches Full HD IPS Display, AMD Ryzen 3 3200U, Vega 3 Graphics, 4GB DDR4, 128GB SSD, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 10 in S Mode, A515-43-R19L,Silver I have owned many laptops in the past and this one doesnt fail to impress me. I love that the screen comes with rich colors and saturation, not many can say about most moderate gaming laptops these days.
I did how ever notice some audio cues and problems with this device, it doesnt seem to have any base to it, so anything with higher pitch just cuts out.
There is no optical drive at all or any possibility of installing a future optical drive as their is no slots for it. It is a great laptop for those who would want to do moderate gaming.
It has a nice feel to it and key board that is backlit, so you can use it in the dark. The screen is eye friendly as you can turn down brightness to your choosing.
It does however have S installed on it but can be easily be unlocked by the windows store or just by updating it manually from the windows updates in system menu.
The Vega graphics are awesome a specially only being clocked at 1100 megahertz, so playing anything moderate is great.
Good for its price. Good for school and work
I have installed a variety of Linux distros[1] on this laptop. So far it seems *very* compatible with Linux. My bios is v1.06. To install Linux:1. Enter bios by pressing F2 as soon as keyboard lights up.
If you wait until the Acer splash screen appears, its probably too late.2. Arrow-right to "Main".... Enable "F12 Boot Menu".... Disable "Fast Boot" (Note: I re-enabled this after install and it worked fine.
Not sure to what extent disabling this is required/desirable. I gathered from googling that being enabled is a common install problem.)..... I also changed "Function key behavior" to "Function Key." Thats not necessary, but makes more sense to me.
